Happy endings

Every one of these horses came to us needing help. This is where they are now.

Gretta

Gretta

Arrived very lame, likely with a fractured pelvis.

Gretta the grulla filly probably had a pelvic fracture when she came in. On the vets' orders she spent six weeks on stall rest, then graduated to the round pen and eventually the arena, where she was bucking and running like any normal young horse. She went on to professional training, and her owner was so inspired that she started rescuing horses too.

Flurry

Came in as Willy. Now an endurance horse.

Willy spent five years at the rescue working through deep trust issues after being mistreated and going hungry. The right trainer finally came along. Now called Flurry, he competes in endurance rides and placed third in his very first one.

Raven

Arrived as Avery, older and emaciated.

Avery was older, badly underweight and lucky to survive. He spent almost two years with us. As Raven, the 22-year-old Thoroughbred went on to place in dressage shows, earned his adopter Em a blue ribbon, and was even shown by a six-year-old girl.

Rain

Arrived thin and distrustful.

Rain was thin and very wary of people when he arrived, and we knew he needed a patient, experienced home. Gayle, who had adopted Willow from us years earlier, lost Willow's pasture mate and did not want her alone. She brought Rain home and the two bonded right away. Now he comes when Gayle calls and soaks up the grooming and attention.

Pirate

Born with a back deformity that means he cannot be ridden.

Pirate was born with a back deformity, so he can never be ridden, but he acts like any other horse. He was adopted as the companion to a blind horse. They share a big pasture, and Pirate leads his friend to the water trough.

Elsa

Young, timid and recovering from a hind foot injury.

Elsa came in with a hind foot injury that needed minor surgery. Luckily there was no tendon damage and she was never lame. She started out timid and barely trained, but she is gaited and riding well now with her dedicated owner.

Sunny

Sunny

Registered Thoroughbred with dressage points. Adopted June 2024.

Sunny, a registered Thoroughbred with points earned in dressage, was adopted in June 2024 and is doing well in a loving new home.

Pumpernickel

Pumpernickel

Recovered from serious barbed wire injuries.

Nickel came in with serious barbed wire injuries to his leg. Today he is healed, enjoyed by his family and ridden by children.

Chance

Chance

Came in as Cajun, a rescue pony. Adopted July 2020.

Cajun went home in July 2020 with a new name, Chance, short for Chance of a Lifetime. This sweet rescue pony finally has a horse-crazy girl all his own.

Prim

Prim

Came in as Shine. Adopted December 2018.

Shine was adopted in December 2018. Now called Prim, she is doing exceptionally well and has even been shown going bridleless.

Dylan

Dylan

Came in as Dillon. Now jumping courses.

Dillon, now spelled Dylan, settled into his new home as a great partner for his rider. The last update had him confidently jumping a 2'3" course.

Kitty

Mona

Mona

Rescued Thoroughbred turned family horse.

Mona joined a family who are thrilled to have her. She has gone on overnight camping trips and competed in her first horse show.

Treasure

A mini with permanent hoof damage who found his calling.

Treasure has permanent hoof damage, but that has not slowed him down. He went on to be a therapy horse and companion, and he dressed up for Halloween too.

Buddy

Trained and adopted through Meridian Equine. Adopted October 2016.

Buddy was adopted in October 2016 by a wonderful family. He stayed on at Meridian Equine so he and his young rider, Ava, could keep learning and growing together.

Sly

Came in underweight and abandoned.

Sly arrived abandoned and underweight. After rehab here he was adopted, and his owner later sent us a photo of him marching in a parade along with word of what a great horse he is.

Carlos

Placed third in the Rally for the Rescues Trainers Challenge.

Brittany Malinoski trained Carlos for the Rally for the Rescues Trainers Challenge, where he placed third overall. Lots of people were interested in him, and he went to a wonderful home in Tennessee.

Peter Pan

A mini who went home with a mini friend. Adopted March 2018.

Peter Pan went home on March 17, 2018, to a great place with a very nice adopter and another mini for a companion.

Dusty

Could not get along with other horses. Now a great trail horse.

Dusty never got along with other horses at the rescue. In the right home he became a great trail horse.
